Information by Lower Super Output Area (LSOA), e.g. population estimates, recorded crime, unemployment, council tax benefit recipients, welfare benefits and other information. Also see interactive Instant Atlas Lower Output Area Profiles.
Once on the The Kirklees Observatory site, look for a small map on the left hand side and click on the LSOA's link below the map to navigate to a profile.
LSOAs are a set of geographical areas developed following the 2001 census, initially to facilitate the calculation of the Indices of Deprivation 2004 and subsequently for a range of additional Neighbourhood Statistics (NeSS). The aim was to produce a set of areas of consistent size, whose boundaries would not change (unlike electoral wards), suitable for the publication of data such as the Indices of Deprivation. They are an aggregation of adjacent Census Output Areas (COAs) with similar social characteristics. LSOAs typically contain 4-6 COAs with a population of around 1500.
The Kirklees Observatory is part of the West Yorkshire Observatory. It allows the user to download profiles and tables of statistics, as well as enabling creation of custom profiles and tables. Profiles are automatically updated with the most current data on the system. Data can also be mapped and displayed as charts. The kirklees Observatory is also where research resources, documents and reports can be accessed.
