Applying for a copy of a birth, marriage, civil partnership or death certificate

How to apply

  • Complete an application form and send it to the Register Office nearest to where the event has happened.
  • You will need to supply at least:
    • the name of the person(s)
    • the approximate date of the birth, death or marriage within one year
    • the place where the event happened.
  • Other details which will be helpful are:
    • the name of parent(s) for birth records
    • or name of husband/wife for death records.

How much a copy of a certificate costs

  • £10.00 for standard birth, death, marriage and civil partnership certificates and short birth certificate.
  • £20.00 for all certificates required on the same day.
  • Please enclose a cheque or money order made payable to 'Kirklees Council' or 'Superintendent Registrar' with your application.
  • You can also pay by a debit or credit card on the phone.
