Applying for a copy of a birth, marriage, civil partnership or death certificate

How to apply

  • Complete an application form and send it to the Register Office nearest to where the event has happened.
  • You will need to supply at least:
    • the name of the person(s)
    • the approximate date of the birth, death or marriage within one year
    • the place where the event happened.
  • Other details which will be helpful are:
    • the name of parent(s) for birth records
    • or name of husband/wife for death records.

How much a copy of a certificate costs

  • £10.00 for standard birth, death, marriage and civil partnership certificates and short birth certificate.
  • £20.00 for all certificates required on the same day.
  • Please enclose a cheque or money order made payable to 'Kirklees Council' or 'Superintendent Registrar' with your application.
  • You can also pay by a debit or credit card on the phone.

Contact the Registration Service

The Registration Service is primarily concerned with registration of births and deaths, taking notices of marriages and civil partnerships, performing civil ceremonies and issuing copy certificates from records dating back to 1837.
