What is supported housing?

Supported housing is also sometimes known as sheltered accommodation. In Kirklees, the council provides two types of supported housing for older people:
  • in bungalows or flats where there is an emergency alarm system to call for assistance, or
  • in a complex of bungalows or flats where a Scheme Coordinator (formerly a warden) is on site 24 hours a day
Some local housing associations also offer similar facilities.

How can I apply for supported housing?

If you would like to apply for supported housing, you will need to complete an application form from Housing Services. The information you provide will be assessed to ensure that properties are allocated to those people who need them the most.

If I already receive community care services - How do I apply?

If you currently receive Community Care services and would like to apply for supported housing, please contact your social worker.
