Unlawful eviction is when your landlords or someone working for them forces you to leave you home e.g.
- Physically thrown out of your home
- Locks being changed when you are out
- Not beNot being allowed to enter all or parts of your home
Your landlord cannot force you to leave your home. If they want you to leave they have to follow the correct procedure by serving you with an
appropriate notice, and then applying to the County Court for a Possession Order requiring you to leave.
Most, but unfortunately not all landlords will provide a good and secure home for their tenants, and will have no intention of breaking the law and
causing distress to tenants.
If you feel you are being harassed or threatened with unlawful eviction you need to contact the council's Private Sector Housing Unit
