Bond Guarantee Scheme - Tenants information
Any dwelling house is deemed fit for human habitation unless it fails to meet one or other of several requirements and by reason of that failure is not reasonably suitable for occupation.
Looking for a property
An Officer from Kirklees Council's Housing Options team will interview potential tenants and assess their suitability to register for the scheme. Those accepted will search for accommodation in the private rented sector.
Private tenants and landlords
Help and advice is available to both tenants and landlords of private rented properties to ensure they are in a reasonable condition to ocupy.

Help and advice available to private tenants who are being harassed by their landlord or threatened with illegal eviction

Downloads for tenants - Mandatory licensing of Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMOs)

The law requires that certain houses in multiple occupation must be licensed. These are:
  • 3 or more storey high(including habitable attics and basements or with shops, offices on one floor
  • have five or more people of more than one unrelated household
  • who share amenities or facilities such as kitchens, bathrooms, common rooms, etc
