History On Your Doorstep
Community History Service newsletter bringing history and heritage to life in Kirklees. Includes special features, details of events, exhibitions and history listing.

There's fun to be had at Kirklees' Museums and Historic Houses. All our sites are aimed at families and there's plenty to keep the children (and the grandchildren) entertained, with the interactive, colourful and exciting displays that bring you closer to your cultural heritage.

Introduce your family to the unusual, the fascinating and the exotic without having to trek miles to get there (or pay a fortune when you do!). Each site is ideal for a family outing. Admission is free to all except Oakwell and, with a continually-changing programme of events and exhibitions, you're guaranteed something new every time you visit!

All museums are within easy travelling distance of each other so why not make a day of it and visit several centuries in one trip? Each is surrounded by gardens or parkland so, if the weather looks good, bring along a picnic or treat yourself to lunch in one of the cafés at Oakwell Hall or Dewsbury Museum.
