What is the Dewsbury Endowed Foundation Trust?

An Education Trust which was set up in to promote the education, including social and physical training, of persons between the ages of 11 and 25 years who are resident in the area of the former county borough of Dewsbury. It was registered with the Charity Commission in December 1968. The Registered charity number is 529328.

Who are the Trustees?

Kirklees Council.

Who decides who gets funding?

The Trust has a working party which is made up of ward councillors and local community representatives. The working party meets twice a year to look at and discuss the application forms they have received.

Who can apply?

Anyone who is a resident of the former county borough of Dewsbury, see map, and is aged between 11 & 25 years old can apply, either as an individual or as an organisation (eg sports clubs, drama clubs, schools).

How old do you have to be?

Individuals have to be aged 11 to 25 years old and organisations have to be working with people aged 11 to 25 years old.

What sort of activities do you fund?

Organisations such as sports clubs to enable them to buy new football kits and arts groups to assist in the running costs for productions are drama classes. Also, individuals to assist in the payment of sporting fees, competition entry fees, training & education course fees.

What won't you give funding for?

Anything that doesn't promote social and education training.

How often can I apply?

Although the Trust meets twice a year, applications are only accepted once a year from the same individual. This is to ensure that everyone has the chance to apply.

What happens with my application form?

Copies are made of the application form, supporting documents and proof of address papers (originals of proof of address documents will be returned). These copies are sent to the members of the working party and a copy is kept on file for our records.

How often does the Trust meet?

Twice a year, in spring (usually March) and autumn (usually November). Notice of these meetings are advertised in the Dewsbury Reporter and on this page.

What do I do if I am late submitting my application?

Please contact the School Organisation & Planning Team on 01484 225014 and we will try to ensure your application is submitted to the working party. Funding can be issued retrospectively.

What happens if my application is successful?

You will be contacted by letter and asked for your bank account details. Payment is then made by BACs.

Can I appeal if funding is refused?

Funding is only refused if the reason for it does not meet the aims of the Trust.

What is the old county borough of Dewsbury?

The old administrative county council which existed before 1974. This map shows the area, but the main areas are: Dewsbury Moor, Chidswell, Shaw Cross, Boothroyd, Chickenley, Earlsheaton, Savile Town, Ravensthorpe, Thornhill Lees, Thornhill, Lower Whitley, Briestfield.
