Community grants - grants of up to £10,000 per year for health and social
care projects. Projects which have already successfully had funding from Community
Partnerships for at least one year can now apply for a three year grant on one application. Applications are processed in 6-8 weeks.
Community grants are for projects that encourage people to remain active in their
community. The grant could be used to cover running costs for an over 60's club,
gardening project, or a support group. A group could also use the grant to buy equipment
for their project.
Oakes Community Café received a grant of £3806 in October 2012, to set up a new community café that
will serve nutritious, affordable, warm food and act as a drop in, where local residents can get advice and
support on health issues, employment benefits, fuel poverty etc. The café aims to recruit local residents as
volunteers to assist with running the café.
The grant covered some equipment costs to get the café up and running, general running costs and volunteer expenses.
Meltham Sports and Community Centre received £10,000 over 2 years (£5000 per year) in August 2012 to run
sports activities for local people over 55. The grant allows the centre to offer sports activities such as crown green
bowling, indoor kurling, badminton, table tennis, cards, dominoes and quizzes 3 days a week. They also run a lunch club on Tuesdays and provide a hot meal for local residents throughout the winter months.
The grant went towards the general running costs of the activities and qualified sessional workers for the different sports activities.
