Kirklees Council gives grants to support the work and development of local voluntary and community organisations which help to achieve the council's vision and ambition.


Eligibility criteria

To be eligible for any Kirklees Council grant, organisations must:


  • Have aims and objectives that are in keeping with those of Kirklees Council.
  • Have a recognised legal and constitutional status, have a clear democratic management structure and be financially viable, have clear financial controls and produce annual accounts.
  • Be legally able to carry out the activities, which should be primarily for the benefit of Kirklees residents, follow national legislation on employment, health and safety, discrimination and child protection and follow Kirklees Council's Equality and Diversity Strategy and Community Cohesion Strategy (PDF 720kb).

In most cases grants are only given to voluntary or community organisation operating on a not for profit basis.

When grants cannot be given

Grants cannot be given:


  • To organisations or for activities that support party political aims.
  • For activities which promote religious beliefs.
  • To meet debts or liabilities.
  • Retrospectively i.e. for expenditure incurred before a grant has been formally awarded.
  • To organisations who have not complied with the conditions of grants given to them in the past by Kirklees Council.
