Conservation Kirklees
Voluntary work in the countryside through Kirklees Council
Want to put something back into our countryside?

Meet new friends and have a great time while caring for your local countryside with Conservation Kirklees. Volunteers come from all walks of life and no previous experience is necessary, you just need to be 16 years of age or older.

Conservation Kirklees helps with practical conservation projects including hedge laying, dry stone walling, fence construction, tree planting and improving footpaths. All the relevant training and tools are provided. You just need to bring old clothes, waterproofs, boots or wellingtons and a packed lunch.

Conservation Kirklees also helps to organise two programmes of events, guided walks and cycle rides each year; promoted in the publication - Walks and Events in Kirklees Countryside. The events, guided walks and cycle rides are to encourage those new to such activities to explore and enjoy the countryside around Kirklees. We are always on the look out for volunteers to assist with running this programme and helping to support these activities is an important part of learning how to become a leader.

Conservation Kirklees play a vital role in the highly successful Imbolc Celtic Fire Festival held on the first Saturday in February (not held 2013). Help is always required with preparation and support on the day.

Conservation Kirklees attend events such as Lark in the Park, the Pink Picnic, Honley Show and Emley Show, to promote the attractive local countryside and encourage new members to join in.

Social events are organised so that volunteers can get to know each other and the officers from the Countryside Unit.

Training is provided by means of an induction programme and by helping with activities. You should not be out of pocket for taking part in Conservation Kirklees activities and expenses can be claimed for expenditure directly incurred due to attendance.
