Batley Resource Centre
We are a charitable organisation with a community focus. Our outreach work with older people provides social opportunities and low level prevention and support services for people in North Kirklees. We aim to reduce social isolation and involve people in activities and hobbies to improve people's physical and mental well-being, helping them remain independent and active for as long as possible.

On The Doorstep is a Department of Health/Age UK project which delivers activities and support for older people by encouraging more people into volunteering. Our volunteers share their hobbies, skills and time with clients through activities such as arts and crafts or lunch clubs, with emphasis on creating a sociable, friendly environment. We have a growing team of 'befrienders' who visit older people who may be experiencing isolation.

Also, Car Companions are volunteers who offer their time to accompany clients to appointments, such as hospital visits, or even social groups. They may drive a client in their own car or go with them in a taxi. They offer company and friendship, not just a lift.

Open Monday to Friday from 8.30am to 5.30pm.

Our luncheon group meets at Batley Old People's Centre every Thursday 11.30am to 1.30pm. Cost £4. Please contact us to book.

Our building is home to a number of like-minded organisations including Batley Self-Help Depression Group, Willow Counselling Services and WRVS.

We also manage bookings on behalf of Batley Older People's Centre on Upper Commercial Street.

Other groups may use the centre for meetings or events. We offer fully managed office space, reprographics, drop in and counselling space, fully equipped meeting room facilities, community group activities, a place for caring groups to meet.

We no longer have our own website, but items relating to the Resource Centre appear on the Yorkshire Childrens Centre site.
