History
Cliffe House
Cliffe House was originally built by Mr Seth Senior for his son James. The Senior family were brewers and started making ale on the site of the current Sovereign Public House. In 1947 Dewsbury Council bought the house as an outdoor centre to be used by local children. In 1974 Kirklees Council was formed and it has been part of the education service since this date.

Woodland adventure
Woodland adventure
As part of the governments pathfinder scheme for open play, the centre has built a professionally constructed play area experience named Woodland adventure.

Woodland adventure consists of a fantastic, highly adventurous area of adventure ropes, swings, slides and a tree house in order that children can access more challenging play and in addition to this is an area for organic play (natural woodland), where children can experience play in the natural environment.

The play area is open at all times for visiting schools and open to the public free of charge at specified times, usually Saturdays 10:30am - 3:00pm. These times are supervised by youth workers from Kirklees Young Peoples Service.
