Welcome to the Kirklees Library On-line Catalogue

If you are not a Kirklees Library member you will only be able to search our catalogue and not use other services available to library members.  If you are a Kirklees Library member, to get the full benefit of this on-line service and be able to reserve and renew items you have on loan, you will need your library card number and a Personal Identification Number (PIN).  To get a PIN please take your library card and one other form of identification to the library.  You will need to give the member of staff a 4 digit code for your PIN.  For your own security we will not be able to offer this service over the phone or by letter, you will need to make a personal visit to the library.

You can browse the online catalogue here.
This section opens in a new window and requires javascript.  It may not be accessible to users with speech browsers.

There are three main sections to the catalogue:-
  • The Home tab lets you do a simple Author or Title search of the catalogue, check out the details of individual libraries in Kirklees or see when the libraries are closed for Bank Holidays.
  • The search tab allows you to carry out a more detailed search of the catalogue and make a reservation providing you have less then £10.00p outstanding in charges on your library card.  Please note that by clicking on the reserve button you have agreed to pay our reservation fees of £0.75p for Adults and Senior Members and £0.30p for Junior Members.  This charge will appear in your account and you should pay the fee on your next visit to the library.
  • The "My Account" tab lets you see what you have out on loan and when items are due back.  You can renew items, check the state of your reservations, view outstanding charges and messages on your ticket and look at your personal information.

Searching the Catalogue

You may carry out an Author or Title search from the Welcome screen, if you prefer click on the Search tab where you will be able to do a Basic or an Advanced Search.  You can also check the History of your current searching.
  • Basic Search - lets you select one of the following search terms - Author, Title, Title(keyword), Subject (keyword), Shelf Number (non-fiction) or ISBN/ISSN.  Select your search term e.g. Author and enter Dickens, Charles or Dickens, C and then click on the "GO" button.
  • Advanced Search - lets you select one or more of the search terms e.g. select Author and enter Dickens, Charles or Dickens, C and then select Title and enter Great Expectations and then click on the "GO" button.
In both cases the result of your search will be displayed.  Click on one of the entries and you will see where copies of an item are held and whether they are available for loan or not.  You may at this stage, if you have a PIN, reserve an item.  Once you make a request and selected a library that you wish to "pick-up" the reserved item from when it becomes available, a reservation fee of £0.75p for Adult and Senior Members and £0.30p for Junior Members will automatically be placed on your library card.  This should be paid on your next visit to the library.  Please note if you have outstanding charges of £10.00p or above on your library card you will not be allowed to place a reservation on an item.
  • History - this will display the search terms you have been using.  You may if you wish edit or repeat the search.

Viewing "Your Account"

To be able to do this you must have a valid library card number and a Personal Identification Number (PIN).  To get a PIN please take your library card and one other form of identification to the library.  You will need to give the member of staff a 4 digit code for your PIN.  For your own security we will not be able to offer this service over the phone or by letter, you will need to make a personal visit to the library.
In My Account you can view the following options:-
  • Overview - this gives you basic information about your loans, reservations and outstanding charges or messages on your library card.
  • On loan - allows you to see when your loans are due back.  From here you can renew items.  Just put a tick in the box against the item you wish to renew and click on the Renew button.  Renewals will not be allowed if the item is reserved by another customer, you have renewed the item more than 3 times or you have outstanding charges of £10.00p or above on your library card.  If a renewal is refused you will need to contact the library immediately to stop overdue charges going onto your library card if the item becomes overdue.
  • Reservations - lets you see what you have reserved and allow you to check to see if any of your reservations are ready to be picked up.  You will be notified by post automatically when a reservation is ready to collect and you will then have 14 days in which to collect the request.  You can only place reservations on stock held on the Kirklees Library catalogue.  If you can not find what you want, on your next visit to the library please ask a member of staff as we may be able to buy or borrow a copy of a title for you.
  • Charges - shows you what outstanding charges you have in your account.  But please note that if an item is overdue an overdue charge for the item will not appear in this section unless the item has been renewed or returned.
  • My Personal Details - this allows you to view your name, address and telephone number so that you can alert us if these details have changed.  Also in this section you can change your PIN and enter or change your email address yourself.  Please note that at the moment we will not be sending out notices for overdue items or reservations by email.
  • My Book List - once you are logged into your account you can create a list of your search results by clicking on the "add to my book list" button in the search result screen.  To view the full list of items you have saved, click on the "My Book List" button on the top right of the screen.  If you are not logged into your account, items you "add to my book list" will not be saved.

If you have any comments or suggestions to make about the on-line catalogue please pass them on to a member of staff or send an email to kirklees.libraries@kirklees.gov.uk.  We will give your comment or suggestions serious consideration and if possible introduce them to the system.
