Display of posters and leaflets in public libraries

Kirklees Culture and Leisure Services
kinfo@kirklees.gov.uk

A vast quantity of this kind of literature is received in libraries every year. It is impossible to display everything and this policy document defines what should be displayed in priority order while recognising that the actual quantity of materials that can be displayed will vary according to the size and physical space available in individual libraries.

This policy on the display of materials should be read in conjunction with the Policy on the Display of Religious and Political Materials in Public Libraries in Kirklees. All posters and leaflets will be checked against this policy before they are put on public display.

The priorities for displaying leaflets and posters in libraries are as follows:

  1. Culture and Leisure Services and Kirklees Council materials
  2. Local, community and regional information
  3. Other e.g. national events or those taking place outside the Yorkshire region.

Space is limited, so a strict time limit of 4 weeks will be observed unless there is a requirement to display the item for a longer period e.g. planning application

  • All posters and leaflets should be in date.
  • In accordance with the byelaws (No 13) all materials should be handed to library staff before they are displayed.
  • Notices advertising purely commercial services will not be accepted.
  • We reserve the right to reject material that is not produced to a suitable standard.
