Kirklees Home Service van
The Home Service brings the library direct to the homes of people who are unable
to get to a branch or mobile library through a disability or medical condition.
The service delivers books, including the latest titles in large print and talking
books on cassette or CD for the visually impaired to people's homes. With many borrowers
already taking advantage of this valuable service, there is capacity to take on
more customers across the Kirklees area.
Items are chosen for each borrower by staff according to profiles drawn up in discussion
with them. These are delivered every two weeks. This service is available to all
age groups, not just the elderly.
"Having worked for the Home Service for over four years, I have seen our customers
continue to rise during this time. Our service provides a lifeline to people who
cannot reach their nearest library and still want to enjoy reading. Home Service
vans travel across Kirklees every day, making fortnightly deliveries to customers.
For the customers' peace of mind, deliveries are made by the same driver each time,
on the same day and at the same time."
