Mandatory licensing of houses in mutiple occupation (HMOs)
On 6th April 2006 the mandatory licensing scheme for HMOs which came into force. The scheme applies to all HMOs which: are 3 or more storey high(including habitable attics and basements or with shops, offices on one floor have five or more people of more than one unrelated household who share amenities or facilities such as kitchens, bathrooms, common rooms, etc.
