I want to tell Adult Services or Health what I think about a service I have
received. How do I do this?
You can email us at working.in.partnership@kirklees.gov.uk,
or you can phone us on 01484 226927. We will make sure that your
comment is passed on to the Team or Manager who can deal with it in full, and we will respond to you within
28 days to let you know what action we have taken. Alternatively, you can fill in the Adult Services
Complaints, Comments and Compliments online form.
Our aim is to make it easy for you to have your say, and to provide different ways for you to do this.
Why are my views important?
The views of service users and carers are critically important, we believe that your feedback is essential
to help services to improve. The people who are receiving services have first-hand experience of
how well those services work for them. Service users and their carers can tell us what works and
doesn't work, and can often suggest positive changes.
What is the Working in Partnership Team?
We are part of Adult Services, and we take a lead in getting people involved. We aim to help people
have their say, and to support service users and carers in planning, evaluating, and making decisions about
the services they receive. To do this, we provide practical support to users and carers so that they
can give their views, attend meetings, and so on. We do this by booking and paying for taxis or care
cover, arranging advocates or interpreters - basically doing all we can to enable people to get involved.
We also work within Health & Social Care, to advise colleagues in different teams and help them to
consult or involve get their own service users. We are co-funded by the Primary Care Trusts.
How can I get more involved?
There are lots of ways to become involved. You might want to have your say about a service you receive,
answer a questionnaire, come to a 'focus group' to discuss an issue, join a Network, attend a Partnership
Board meeting, or simply be sent our newsletter to keep you more informed. You can phone us on
01484 226927 or email us at

How does Kirklees Adult Services plan, evaluate, and make decisions about the services
it offers?
Every team and service area within Adult Services must produce a Business Plan each year, reviewing the
work of the past year, and outlining what it plans to do in the following year. These are pulled
together in a Strategic Development Plan that covers the work of the whole of Kirklees Adult Services.
The way Adult Services plan and evaluate services and make decisions is changing. Health and Adult
Services are working together, so that plans and decisions can be more 'joined up'. There are new
arrangements for this joint working, and new Partnership Boards to plan
services for five different groups of users. There are also new Networks of services users and carers,
so that more people can get involved.
What is a Network?
Networks are groups of users or carers who meet together to discuss the services they receive, exchange
information, plan how they can get involved to change and improve services, and sometimes offer each
other support. The Networks address all areas of concern in people's lives: for example, members
may want to talk about benefits, do something about making transport accessible, or change people's
views and perceptions. The Networks are new and still developing.
These are the Networks now running:
Organisations such as Health and Adult Services also approach the Networks to get the views of users and
carers on particular issues, and the Partnership Boards are beginning to build close links. You can find
out more about these Networks by contacting the Working in Partnership Team.
What are the Partnership Boards?
These are the new bodies that plan, evaluate, and make decisions about services. They are made up of
'decision-makers' and senior managers from Health and Adult Services. Sometimes other relevant services
are involved plus members who are service users or carers. Voluntary and community organisations are
also beginning to get involved. The Partnership Boards are building close links with the user and carer
Networks, so that more people submit their views and be involved. The Partnership Boards will soon also
make budget decisions about how money will be spent.
The 5 Partnership Boards are:
- Children's Partnership Board - focussing on children with a disability.
- Learning Disabilities Partnership Board
- Mental Health Partnership Board
- Older People's Partnership Board
- Partnership Board for Physical Disabilities & Sensory Impairment
