Quality standards
What quality standards are
Development Officer, Service Development Unit - September 2007

What are Quality Standards?
Adult services aim to provide good quality services for all adults in Kirklees who are in need. This includes people from many different ethinic
and cultural backgrounds, people with disabilities and people with different religious
backgrounds regardless of sexuality.
Adult Services aim to deliver all our services to a consistently high standard
- to everyone who is eligible to receive them.
Whenever you come into contact with staff from Kirklees Adult Services you can
expect:
- to be treated with honesty, respect and dignity.
- to work with us and be involved in making decisions.
- be treated fairly and not be discriminated against on the grounds of age, sex, race, religion and sexuality.
- to be told the name and job title of the person you are dealing with.
- to receive information made available in a language or format that is best suited to you to receive an interpreter if you need one.
- to be given information so that you can make informed choices.
- to be given accurate and up to date information about local services whenever you contact a Gateway to Care.
- to be positively considered and responsive to complaints, comments or compliments about services.
- to be put in touch with someone who can help if the person you first contact cannot answer your questions.
- to be told when you are being assessed.
Why are quality standards important to Adult Services?
quality standards are important because they are the standards our staff aim to
work to so that we can be sure we are:
- meeting the needs of services users (the people we provide support for) and carers.
- treating everyone fairly and with respect
All the services delivered to you by adult Services are required to adhere to
a range of legislation and government guidance including:
What services do quality standards cover?
We currently have quality standards for the following services:
- Service-wide standards.
- Day services for adults.
- Residential services for adults.
- Assessment for adults.
- Domicilliary care for adults (home care).
Quality standards for services
How do Kirklees Adult Services quality standards link with National Minimum Standards?
The National Minimum Standards are a minumum set by the government for services which are regulated and focus on how services are organised, whereas quality standards focus on how we will work with you.
Our core purpose is:
The Commission for Social care Inspection can be seen at http://www.csci.org.uk
How do Adult Services achieve quality standards?
For every standard there is a list of the things we must do to achieve it.
These are things like following procedures, consulting with people who use our
services and staff training.
How have the quality standards been developed?
Work has been done within the service areas and teams. Discussions have taken
place with groups of people including service users (the people we provide services'
for), front line staff and managers.
Will they continue to be developed?
Yes and your comments are important to us.

How do I make a complaint, comment or compliment?
To make a complaint, comment
or compliment you can fill in a form online and get more information about
complaints procedures and contact addresses.
It is always good to know when we have got things right and that our services
have helped you to overcome any problems you may have had. We recognise that sometimes
we may make mistakes and get it wrong.
You can help us to put things right, and to plan successful services for the
future, if you let us know about any comments, compliment or complaints that you
may have.
We take all comments seriously and will keep you informed about how the investigation
is going and will let you know the outcome of your complaints.
If you do complain this will not affect the services you are receiving.
Who can I contact for further information about Adult Services?
For specialist information and advice about Adult Services, you can contact your
