What is a short term break?

Short term breaks offer carers the chance to take break from caring for a disabled, ill, or frail elderly person. This helps carers to take a break when they feel they need it, and be confident that the person they look after is receiving the best of care.

If you are caring for someone and would like specific information about services for carers in Kirklees, click here for information from the Carers Gateway.

How much does a short term break cost?

There will be a charge made for any stay in a nursing or residential home, but the amount that you pay will depend on the financial circumstances of the person who will be staying in the home.

The maximum amount that anyone will pay is currently £20 per night, for up to seven nights.

You may also qualify for a direct payment. A direct payments is a cash payment to allow you to buy your own support instead of Adult Services providing it for you.

If you would like to e-mail questions directly to a Gateway to Care use the Gateway to Care enquiry form.
