Voice Over (Donna): Many people with a learning disability may want to gain new skills or improve the ones they already have. Going to college can help do this. The skills they learn can help them to live more independently, meet new people, gain confidence and get a job. Marsha: My name is Marsha I go to Huddersfield Technical College.

I have been coming to college for four years. When I come to college I do the sandwich run, I do the team building exercises and do the trolley. I work in the work focused café. Money skills is learning about money, counting how many monies you've got and how much we've raised. Putting them all in to like different 50p's and £1's and 5p's, that's really helped me.

My confidence was not that good but now I think I've got my confidence better now. We do team building exercises - we did the swamp, we did and then at Christmas we did the ice skating rink at Christmas and everybody enjoyed that and everybody went to do that, everybody were doing that really good. And then we do like different ones on a Tuesday, we did the football one.

I've learnt to help people, I've learnt to work as a team, I really like that. The best thing what I like about college is seeing my friends and seeing my teachers. The thing I don't like about coming up to college is getting up early on a morning. It helps me a lot. When I went to Peter's café I was only doing one day a week and then I upped my hours to 3 days a week. I start at 9.30 and finish at 2. I really like it. top
