Work opportunities

Braircourt Garden Scheme is a working garden centre. Here people have the opportunity to learn about horticulture and gain work experience. They work in poly tunnels, greenhouses or outdoors and take part in work such as growing, sowing, potting and making hanging baskets for sale. Flowers are also grown to cut and sell in the summer.

The Deanery Project is based at Braircourt Gardens. A small group of workers go into the Deighton area each day and maintain gardens for people not able to do their own in that area.

Footprints is a shop based at 41 Market Street, Huddersfield.  It specialises in screen printing and transferring images onto a range of garments and accessories.
Footprint supports people service users to gain various work skills both in screen printing and working in a shop environment, as well as helping customers with their orders.

There are also opportunities in each of the community bases for people to pursue work based opportunities. This includes paid and voluntary positions, anything from working in cafes to delivering the local paper with support from Community Support Officers where needed.

How to get a place

You can contact the social work team at the Greenhead Resource Centre or Cullingworth Street.
A social worker will talk to you about your interests and what support you might need to use different services and this will go into your personal community care plan.

You can contact Gateway to care on 01484 223000 who will then contact the Social Work team at the Greenhead Resource Centre or Cullingworth Street.

A social worker will talk to you about your interests and what support you might need to use different services and this will go into your personal community care plan.

The social worker will talk to the Learning Disability Panel about your wishes. If the panel decides that your needs would be met by using some of our services, an 'Eligibility Criteria' document will be drawn up. This will state your needs and the needs of your carers and indicate how many days you will attend. If your needs change at any time, a new Eligibility Criteria document will be drawn up to see if the number of days should change.

Our staff

We have:

  • Four Day service team managers
  • Day service support officers
  • Kitchen staff
  • Administration staff
  • Drivers and escorts
  • Cleaning staff

The team will give you the support you need to take part in your daily activities and help you with your personal development and personal support needs.  They will get to know you and your carers and will help you reach your full potential by finding out what you want to do with your time while you are with us.

We will provide services that are sensitive to your cultural needs and ensure that your requests for support are met.

Charges

If you live in residential care the charge will be £3.10 a day.  If you live at home with your parents or carers your day service charge will be £5.10 a day.

Complaints, compliments and comments

If you are not satisfied with something that has happened to you or you feel there is something you have been prevented from doing, you can use our Complaints, Compliments and Comments Service.  This means that somebody will listen to what you have to say and they will try to do something about it.

Equal Opportunities Policy

Kirklees Council has an Equal Opportunities Policy and all our services should reflect this.  We will respect your individual needs and provide a service that aims to meet them.
