gatewaytocare@kirklees.gov.uk

About the scheme

The Burgh Mill scheme, based on Burgh Mill Lane, Dewsbury Moor, is a domiciliary support service for adults with learning disabilities. The scheme supports individuals with different levels of disabilities to live a normal live in the community.

Our service provides support 365 days a year covering weekends and bank holidays and is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

All our staff are experienced in working with clients with learning disabilities and are qualified or working towards N.V.Q level 3 and/or LDAF. All our new staff are taken through an induction program and are trained in the necessary areas. Our staff work with each individual's support plans to identify their needs.

What type of support does the Burgh Mill Scheme offer?

Staff will support tenants to:
  • Manage finances
  • Carry out general domestics tasks such as shopping and keeping a clean, warm, safe home
  • Find local social groups and fitness centres
  • Find paid employment and/or attend day services
  • Attend any medical appointments if necessary
  • Maintain a healthy diet and exercise regimes
  • Keep up with their tenancies, ensuring they are able to live independently in the community.

Complaints comments and compliments

The scheme runs an internal concerns procedure, if this is not enough then support would be given to use the Kirklees complaints, comments and compliments procedure.
