How much will I have to pay?

The Home Care Service includes services such as home care and night sitting.

The service is charged at an hourly rate up to a maximum of 20 hours each week.

You may be entitled to a free service or a reduction in your charge depending on your disposable income.

You won't be asked to pay more than your disposable income – even if the full charge for your service is higher.

How will I be told how much I have to pay?

An Assistant Assessment Officer will visit you or your relative/representative. They will help to complete the Personal Financial Statement and tell you the maximum you can pay for your service. They will follow up the visit with written confirmation of how the amount you will pay has been calculated.

Your local Home Care office will also write to let you know how much you need to pay for the number of hours of Home Care you are receiving.

How can I pay?

Your local Home Care office will apply for a swipe card on your behalf, which they will send to you. You can pay with the swipe card at any Post Office weekly, fortnightly or monthly. You will not be able to make a payment without the swipe card.

If you are unable to pay in this way because of exceptional circumstances, we may be able to make another payment arrangement.

What happens if I am temporarily away from home?

You only pay care charges for the weeks in which you receive a service. If you are on holiday, in respite care or in hospital you will not have to pay for these weeks.

If you receive a service for part of the week we will adjust your weekly charge.

What if I have paid too much or too little for my service?

If you have paid too much for your care service we will reduce your weekly charge until the amount we owe you has been repaid. If this is not possible, or you have stopped receiving the service, we will then send you a refund.

If you have not paid enough for your care service we will tell you about the underpayment. If you cannot pay the money owed in one payment you can increase your weekly payment until the outstanding amount is repaid. We can also arrange to send you an invoice for the outstanding amount if needed.

If you still underpay we will arrange to send you an invoice for the outstanding amount.
