Gateway to Care
Adult Services Public Information - April 2008
gatewaytocare@kirklees.gov.uk
These are accessible offices at Huddersfield, Dewsbury, Cleckheaton and Batley
run by Adult Services which offer information and advice about services provided
by Kirklees Adult Services, by the Health Authority and by other organisations.
What does Gateway to Care offer?
Gateway to Care provides a free, confidential gateway to a wide
range of services such as: information, advice, counselling, benefits information,
assessment of needs and circumstances, Parking Badges, concessionary travel passes,
passport size photos, community day centres, personal support, equipment and home
adaptations. It is the contact point given on all Gateway to Care leaflets.
Gateway to Care staff take referrals from customers for the
Adult Services Assessment Teams, for the Furniture Scheme and for Food Parcels.
They act as agents on behalf of some Adult Services teams, for example, in paying
Section 17 money for Child Care Teams.
In addition the service runs disability equipment shops and the Shopmobility Scheme
that provides battery-powered pavement scooters and manual wheelchairs to help
disabled shoppers in the centres of Dewsbury and Huddersfield.
It holds and distributes public information for Adult Services, the voluntary
sector and other agencies. It provides information and advice about services and
goods for disabled people and has a library with a variety of information resources
to help in this.
Gateway to Care aim to:
- treat you with courtesy and respect
- make sure you are not passed around unnecessarily
- make every effort to answer your questions
- give information on how to complain if you are unhappy with the service
you have received
- have people available who can speak local community languages
There is an exhibition of disability equipment for everyday living at The Walsh
Building, Town Hall Way, Dewsbury.
