Services for Deaf People

A wide range of services for Deaf people, the general public and Kirklees Council staff are available through this specialist team. The team answers your enquiries and it provides support in obtaining other services. It provides long-term guidance and support for individuals and gives help in developing services for Deaf people in the community.

Interpreting Services assist both Deaf and hearing people to communicate in British Sign Language and spoken English. This may involve taking part in meetings, visits to the doctor, hospital, optician, job interview, solicitors, court, benefit offices, building societies, schools, colleges, and so on.

The services are available to all sections of the community and to all Kirklees Council departments. In addition, the team provides Deaf Awareness Training, equipment and consultation services, both for service users and service providers.
