Gateway to care
Gateway to Care - February 2008
gatewaytocare@kirklees.gov.uk
About Gateway to care
Gateway to care is in Huddersfield Town Centre, near the bus station.
Housed in the former NTL building at 30 Market Street, near the bus station, services working together aim to help you, your family
and friends get the health and social care information and support you need, all under one roof.
Step through the door and you'll find advice for everyone who lives in Kirklees, including children and families, older people,
unpaid carers and people with physical, sensory or learning disabilities. There is also support for homeless people and people
with mental health problems.
Anyone who has difficulty walking around the town centre centre will be able to borrow a Shopmobilty scooter or wheelchair free.
Gateway to care also has equipment for sale for people who need help to live independently.
The opening on 11 April 2005 was the outcome of much planning and development.
Gateway to care has been developed in consultation with Kirklees Council, SCOPE in Huddersfield, The Nerve Centre, Mencap, Age
Concern, the Disability Rights Network, The Physical Disability and Sensory Impairment Partnership Board, Mental Health, the
Learning Disabilities Partnership Board, the Children's Partnership Board, the Shopmobility Steering Group and the NHS Patient
Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) for primary care and PALS for mental health.
Service users and carers views and suggestions have been included in developing Gateway to care.
Gateway to care is funded by Kirklees Council and the Neighbourhood Renewal Fund and is staffed by trained specialist advisers
who will explain the range of services available to you.
It holds special surgery sessions, and offers a signpost service to many other
organisations, such as housing and other health services.

Services on offer include a Kirklees Council Gateway to Care, an Equipment Shop, Community Liaison, Carers
