Give a child a chance

Kirklees Council desperately need more foster carers for babies, toddlers, young children, teenagers and sibling groups of various ages.

You can chose to foster on a short term basis, where you would care for lots of different children over a short period of time when their own families can't look after them.

We also need long term foster carers where it has been decided by the courts that it is not safe or in the child's best interest to return home to their birth family, so they would stay with you until they reach young adulthood.

About fostering
Foster carers provide a stable and loving home to some of the most vulnerable children in Kirklees.
Types of fostering
There are lots of different types of fostering. We can help you decide which best suits your current circumstances, and you can change this during your career in fostering.
Allowances, training and support
Foster carers receive a weekly skills payment and allowance for the children they look after. They are expected to attend some essential training courses and are given lots of support.

The approval process is designed to make sure fostering is right for you and your family and so that we recruit suitable foster carers for looked after children and young people in Kirklees.

Short Break Care
Kirklees Council’s Short Break Scheme is designed to support parents of children with disabilities. You can help by committing to care for a disabled child just a few nights a month.
Private fostering - Somebody else's child
Help and support if a child lives with somebody other than a close relative for more than 28 days and is under 16 (or 18 if they have a disability)
