How do I become
a foster parent?
At any one time there may be as many as 200 children fostered in
Kirklees. All foster carers receive an allowance for children they care
for and may also receive a skills payment.
Contact the Family Placement Unit with your request for consideration
by filling in the online Initial Contact Form.
What is private fostering?
If you are looking after a child to whom you are not related
and you are not an approved foster carer, this might be a private
fostering arrangement. Private foster carers must inform the local
authority if they are looking after a child in these circumstances.
The Council has a responsibility to visit you on a regular basis
and ensure that the placement is in the child's best interests.
The social worker who visits you will also be available to assist,
support and guide you as appropriate. To advise the Council if you
are looking after someone else's child, please contact your local
Gateway to Care. If you need to contact us in an
emergency please telephone the emergency
duty team on 01924 326489.
