Parenting programmes

Parenting Support - October 2008

Kirklees Parenting Support Service are working to support the development of parenting programmes throughout the Authority. The parenting programmes we are supporting are:

Webster Stratton - Incredible Years
This programme is suitable for all parents with children aged 2 to 8 years old. Focuses on promoting children's social and emotional behaviour, focusing on play and positive praise.

Share Plus
Share Plus is a flexible programme which offers a way of working with parents, through a trained facilitator, in order to engage parents as a group. The aim of the programme is to raise the confidence of parents by sharing ideas and focusing on particular needs, eg. behaviour, the role of a parent, communication and learning through play. There are over 70 topics to choose from.

Strengthening Families
Strengthening Families is a programme which teaches parenting and life skills for high risk children and parents in high risk families with children ages 3-5, 6-11, and 12-16.

Steps to Excellence for Personal Success (STEPS)
Steps to Excellence for Personal Success (STEPS) is a programme aimed at parents and the wider community and forms part of the Pacific Institute Investment in Excellence programmes. STEPS is a course which encourages people to think about themselves and the way they choose to live their lives.

ESCAPE and Parallel Lines
ESCAPE and Parallel Lines offers a problem solving approach to parents of young people over 10 years, as well as a programme for the young people themselves.

Solihull
The Solihull Approach Parenting Group is designed to help parents develop a way of relating to their child that promotes child development and effective behaviour management.

Coaching and mentoring
The team at Kirklees Parenting Support Service are also available to offer coaching and mentoring to practitioners and agencies individually to support the development of parenting support.

National Academy of Parenting Practitioners (NAPP)
The National Academy of Parenting Practitioners have developed a Commissioners Toolkit which is a database of parenting that give you upto date information about the programme, who the target group is for each programme and information about the evaluation of the programme.
