Parenting support forum - celebration events
Kirklees Parenting Support Forum hosted two celebration events for parents across Kirklees during
March 2007. All primary schools and children's centres in Kirklees, were sent letters inviting their
parent groups to attend.
The events were aimed at:
- Raising the profile of parents
- Engaging/communicating with existing parent groups
- Letting parents have their say on parenting provision through evaluation/consultation
One event was held at Northorpe Hall for North Kirklees parents whilst another event was held at Crosland
Moor Children's Centre for South Kirklees parents. In this way we wanted to try and include as many
parent groups as we could.
Parents had a choice of activities to choose from ranging from aromatherapy, art and craft, baking, foot
spa, hair care, hand massage and nail art. Mouth watering refreshments and tasty snacks were also
provided.
The celebration events were well attended by more than 60 parents between both venues.
Although all the attendees were female, parents of all ages and from different ethnic groups and backgrounds
across Kirklees, attended.
The events were very successful and enjoyed by all. There was a real buzz of excitement, enthusiasm
and activity, with lots of smiles, chatter and laughter all around.
We had lots of positive responses from parents, here are a few of the many we received - "Lovely to meet new
people while spending valuable time with other parents", "Very relaxing and enjoyable, everything was
brilliant", "Should be more events like this, it was all fantastic!". "Thank you for a good choice of
activities, we've been well looked after"
The Parenting Support Forum, will hopefully be hosting another parent celebration event next year, building
on the success of this one.
