About the Children With a Disability Team (CWDT)

The CWDT aims to help young disabled people from before birth to 18 years. We are part of the Directorate for Children & Young People. The CWDT offers assessments and provides care packages to children with a disability and their families in Kirklees.

The CWDT have people who make decisions and provide support to children with a disability.

In Kirklees, the first person you are likely to make contact with is a Social Worker or Community Care Officer. Their managers are called Deputy Managers and above them are Team Managers. They are all responsible for day to day decision making.

In the CWDT we also have a lot of different people who work with disabled children. You may come across social workers, community care officers, residential workers, child in need reviewing officers and activity coordinators. We all work together to ensure the well-being of young disabled people in Kirklees. The staff come from various backgrounds and cultures and they have a range of skills, training and experience.
