Walking is the perfect activity for health
What a great way to meet others and get healthy in a safe way! The best thing is it's free and easy, you don't
need any special equipment - just comfortable walking shoes and you can start slowly and build up gently. Almost
everyone can do it and you can do it anywhere, at any time.
Did you know walking can:
- Make you feel good
- Give you more energy
- Help you sleep better
- Help you reduce stress
- Keep your heart strong
- Reduce your blood pressure
- Help you to manage your weight.
Short group walks
Join our programme of short, group walks of up to an hour led by a qualified, volunteer walk leader. These are
great for people who have previously done little or no structured walking for their health. For details of the
group walks in your area ring 01484 234095 or request a timetable of short health walks.
Longer led walks and rambles
There are many voluntary organisations which plan group walks for those keen to walk and ramble across
Kirklees. Find out details in the Kirklees What's On publication.
Short walks in your area
Walking in a group doesn't suit everyone and you may prefer to follow a route map on your own or with a group
of friends. Pathways to Health are mapped walking routes throughout Kirklees which give suggestions of ways to
walk which generally take less than an hour.
Kirklees Walking Network
The network aims to get more people, more active, more often by walking and provides support, training and
information to walking leaders who set up and run different types of walking group in Kirklees. More details from
01484 234096.
