We know bringing up children is difficult - We can help!
Home-Start Kirklees is a registered charity, which covers all of Kirklees. What is Home-Start?
Home-Start is an organisation that works across all Kirklees. They train volunteers to befriend parents who have at least one child under the age of five. They visit parents in their own homes.

What will happen if I ask them for help?
A Home-Start coordinator will visit you and they will talk to you about your family needs. They will try to find you a suitable volunteer, or they will invite you to one of our family groups.

What will the volunteer do for me?
The volunteer will visit you in your own home and will discuss with you how they can help you. Basically, they act like a good friend. They may help you visit your health centre, shops, or playgroup, or spend time in the home with you and your children.

Do I have to pay?
No the service is free.

What kind of people do they visit?
All kinds of people who might be finding caring for their children difficult, for example:
  • a family with new twins,
  • a family who is isolated because their relatives live away,
  • a family who may feel unhappy following the birth of a baby,
  • a family whose children have a disability of some kind
There must be a child under the age of 5 years in the family.
