Some of our sources of flooding

  • Large 'main rivers' (Rivers Holme, Colne, Calder, Spen,and others)
  • Medium 'main rivers' (Fenay and Batley Becks, River Dearne, and others)
  • Small 'main rivers' (Crimble Clough, Batley Carr and Grimescar Dikes etc)
  • Ordinary watercourses (other natural streams which are not classified as 'main river')
  • Public sewers
  • Private sewers
  • Highway gullies and culverts
  • surface water run-off from fields and open spaces
  • Groundwater
  • Reservoirs.
