Report it

  • Report flooding from water supply mains and public sewers to Yorkshire Water:
Yorkshire Water: Contact us (external site)
  • Private drain faults are the responsibility of the individual. The council can serve notice if an investigation proves the fault rests with a private third party to affect repair. The Council does not undertake investigations on behalf of private individuals. For further information contact the Flood Management and Drainage Team.

Responsibility for drainage

  • Private responsibility includes:
    • Any drainage that discharges directly into a septic tank or watercourse.
    • Drainage that serves only a single property and is on the land of that property.
  • Most other drainage is the responsibility of Yorkshire water. Information about responsibility for private drains:

The public sewer map

The public sewer map records the sewers that Yorkshire Water are responsible for. You can view it at their head office, or at the Kirklees Flood Management and Drainage Team office: The map may not include all of the sewers which Yorkshire Water maintain.
