What are the opening hours of Kirklees household waste recycling centres?

Permits to use Kirklees household waste recycling centres

A residents permit scheme is in operation at all of these sites. Permits have been sent out with your council tax bill. If you did not receive your permit, have lost it or are new to the area, let us know.

Do commercial type vehicles need a permit?

Commercial type vehicles (including pick ups) need a special permit to use the sites when disposing of household waste. A commercial type vehicle access permit form should be completed and applied for. For borrowed vans a temporary one-off permit is available and hired vans need to show the hire sheet on arrival at the site.

Disposal of plasterboard products and materials containing plaster

Plaster and plasterboard materials (gypsum based materials) cannot be disposed of with biodegradable waste, as this can lead to the production of odorous and toxic hydrogen sulphide gas.

In order to reduce the potential production of hydrogen sulphide gas, plasterboard or materials containing plaster will only be accepted for disposal at:
  • Emerald Street Household Waste Recycling Centre in Huddersfield
  • Weaving Lane Household Waste Recycling Centre in Dewsbury, or
  • Bent Ley Road Household Recycling Centre in Meltham
where dedicated skips are provided. There is no need to notify the site in advance of delivery. This is to comply with new Environment Agency regulations. We apologise for any inconvenience.
