Glass recycling

Environmental Services - May 2008
environmental.waste@kirklees.gov.uk

Glass is now collected from the kerbside from about 44,000 properties in Kirklees. If you have a green recycling box, this is for glass. Green boxes are collected once a month. If you don't have a green box yet, you'll receive one when your grey bin collections switch to alternate weeks. You will be sent an information pack around 3 to 4 weeks before the change.

You can use our bin collections search to find out when your green box is collected. Please make sure that your box is put out for collection by 7am on the correct day.

What you can put in your green box

Your green box is for:

  • Glass bottles
  • Glass jars

Please remember to remove the lids and rinse out your glass bottles and jars. Place your items loosely in the box (not in bags).

What you shouldn't put in your green box

Some materials should not go in the green boxes. These include:

  • Light bulbs
  • Pyrex and cookware
  • Drinking glasses
  • Spectacles
  • Window panes
  • Broken glass

These items should not be placed in your green box because they currently cannot be dealt with at the glass recycling plant.
