Maintenance of the natural environment in urban areas

The council undertakes routine cutting of grass in urban areas together with tree and hedge pruning and shrub and rose bed maintenance.

Grass areas which are the responsibility of the council are cut on a rota system. Continued bad weather can delay cutting and extended dry weather may make cutting unnecessary. If you are dissatisfied with the service in an area or want further advice, please contact us.

Parks maintenance and horticultural standards

The council is responsible for the general operational management and day-to-day maintenance of the various town, district and local parks distributed across the area.

Each town park has a dedicated team of staff who pride themselves in delivering a high standard of horticultural maintenance. Mobile gardening teams regularly visit sites to ensure that the defined standards are maintained at district and local parks.

The gardening staff ensures that the quality and range of horticultural features such as:
  • grass areas
  • litter collection
  • flower and shrub beds
  • hedges
  • playgrounds
  • outdoor sports facilities
are all maintained appropriately and that standards of cleanliness and health and safety are achieved by regular inspection.
