About the Healthy Choice Award

The award is a way of rewarding businesses that practice good standards of food hygiene, offer healthy food options and encourage a smoke free environment (there are some exemptions under the smokefree legislation (care homes etc)).

The award is open to all businesses selling/providing food, for example catering outlets, supermarkets, sandwich shops, takeaways, restaurants, cafes, schools, nurseries, public houses, hotels, clubs, canteens, care homes etc.

The council believes that are there a number of food businesses in the district that provide and maintain a high standard of food safety and deserve to be recognised for their efforts.

If you would like to see if your business is eligible you can view the assessment criteria then apply by filling in a downloadable application form (PDF 35kb), and posting it to us, alternatively you can email environmental.health@kirklees.gov.uk and we will post you a pack with criteria/application form.

Please note a new award is being developed entitled "The Healthier Takeaway / Fast Food Award" due out Winter 2007.  Please email environmental.health@kirklees.gov.uk if you are interested in receiving information once it is available.
