What is a green network?

A green network is a planned network of formal and informal green spaces which are multifunctional in their use.  It will provide opportunities for:
  • People - traffic free routes for non-motorised transport and passive recreation
  • Wildlife - creating and managing more habitats for wildlife including green corridors to connect habitats.
  • Outdoor recreation - creating opportunities to get active in a natural environment such as walking, canoeing, orienteering etc
  • Natural flood storage - working to reinstate natural drainage capacity of river systems and water storage.

Developing a Green Network in Kirklees booklet

In January 2007 Kirklees Council adopted the Green Ambition which sought to change the way we think about our environment and reduce the impact of our actions. The Green Network was part of this ambition. The booklet aims to promote the green network concept, its benefits and how it might benefit you and your community.
