Benefits and opportunities of a green network

There are numerous other inter-related benefits to be gained from investing in a multi-purpose green network, these are listed below;
Economic
  • catalyst for regeneration, job creation and enterprise
  • indirect benefits e.g. flood alleviation, reduced traffic congestion, a more mobile healthy workforce
  • a basis for external funding bids and inward investment in Kirklees
  • a potential increase in visitor numbers boosting urban and rural econimies
Health and recreation
  • increased opportunities for physical exercise and recreation
  • health benefits from reduced pollution and improved urban development
  • attractive green spaces become better utilised
  • improvements to mental and physical well-being gained from better surroundings
Environmental benefits
  • increasing walking and cycling journeys potentially reducing carbon emissions
  • natural drainage processes help control floods and reduce pollution
  • improvement to natural habitats and biodiversity within green spaces
  • new green corridors to help wildlife to move around and flourish
