Waste
Recycling and Waste in Kirklees
Kirklees Council is working hard to help people in Kirklees increase the amount that they recycle. The Council is currently rolling out a programme of increased recycling across the district; doubling the frequency of green bin collections. We have also increased kerbside glass recycling. Energy
Affordable Warmth
Kirklees Council together with local agencies have developed an Affordable Warmth Strategy to help residents tackle all aspects of fuel poverty. It is making a difference to the health and welfare of local people through energy efficient homes and affordable energy.
The Kirklees Warm Zone scheme offers FREE loft and cavity wall insulation to every suitable home in Kirklees. It also offers householders a free carbon monoxide detector, free benefits and debt advice, support to long-term carers and much more.

Renewable Energy
Kirklees Council has undertaken a number of renewable energy projects across the district, to help reduce emissions in our own buildings and in Kirklees homes.
Through a number of different funding streams we have installed a variety of renewable energy technologies on many different types of property such as; care homes, schools, council buildings, luxury apartments, and social housing.
Loans for Renewable Energy
Through the , Kirklees Council offered loans to our residents to help them install a form of low carbon or renewable energy onto their property. The scheme is closed to new applications.

Transport
Kirklees Council is working on a number of schemes to help develop more sustainable travel for the district, both for its own workers and the residents of Kirklees.
Green Network
The council is committed to developing a plan for a comprehensive green network for the whole district. The Green Network is a planned network of multi use cycleways, footpaths, horse riding routes, canal routes, public rights of way, wildlife sites, green spaces and greenway linkages.

Travel Plans
Kirklees Council is currently contributing to the West Yorkshire Local Transport Plan (LTP), covering all modes of transport, buses, trains, roads, cycling and walking, to help make travel in Kirklees more sustainable. This plan is produced through the partnership of the five West Yorkshire districts of Kirklees, Bradford, Wakefield, Calderdale and Leeds, as well as West Yorkshire Metro.
