Thinking about climate change makes business sense - things that help lessen the effects of climate change can often be translated into money savings. Extreme weather events caused by climate change will also have a detrimental effect on business operations.

The Green Business Network

The Green Business Network (GBN) offers a range of free Environmental Services to help businesses in Kirklees reduce their environmental impact.

These services include environmental audits, sector specific toolkits, a carbon footprinting service and a comprehensive database of local recyclers.

Environmental audits

We provide free environmental audits for any business in Kirklees. The environmental audit reviews all aspects of your business's impact on the environment and will be tailored to suit your individual company.

The review will identify the key issues affecting your business including opportunities for cost savings and it will provide a prioritised action plan to help your company deliver long-term efficiency savings and make more effective use of natural resources.

Environmental toolkits

Easy to follow and sector specific, toolkits provide helpful tips and advice on how to make easy changes to reduce the environmental impact of your business. At present, we have toolkits available for Care Homes; Office based businesses and the Manufacturing, Retail and the Hospitality sector.

Each toolkit provides: Suggestions on pollution prevention, reducing energy costs, waste management, water use, transport, advice on sustainable purchasing and environmental training, details of current environmental legislation, funding opportunities, local recyclers and where to go for further help.

Environmental management systems and carbon footprinting

We've joined forces with Kirklees Environment Unit to launch a network for Kirklees businesses wishing to implement an Environmental Management System (EMS). One-to-one advice is available and a free carbon footprinting service is also available to all businesses in Kirklees.

Databases of local recyclers are also available. We have details of companies who will collect and recycle the following materials: Paper/cardboard, textiles, wood, green waste, mixed waste, plastics, batteries, chemicals, electronic waste, glass, oil, office supplies, rubber, fluorescent tubes and metal.
