Council grants help support a wide range of environmental activity by not-for-profit organisations, community groups and council services taking action to improve both our local and global environments.  Grants are also available through Yorkshire Energy Services for improving the energy efficiency of your home.


Energy efficiency grants - Kirklees Warm Zone

Kirklees Warm Zone is one of the biggest and most comprehensive programmes to tackle domestic energy efficiency and climate change in the UK and from February 2007 Kirklees Warm Zone will be coming to you. Every home in Kirklees which is suitable for loft and cavity wall insulation will receive this work for free! This is a first in the UK.

RE-Charge Scheme

RE-Charge Scheme
RE-Charge is an exciting new scheme funded by Kirklees Council to help home owners reduce their carbon footprint.

RE-Charge offers interest free loans to home owners to install renewable energy and low carbon technologies on their property. This scheme is the first of its kind in the UK and there are limited funds available.

The RE-Charge Scheme is managed by Yorkshire Energy Services, the local Energy Efficiency Advice Centre.

Funding 2009/10

Is your organisation full of ideas to improve the local environment but lacking funds?

If your project helps protect and enhance the environment for the benefit of the people of Kirklees, your group could be eligible for a grant.

Kirklees Council Environment Grant Scheme helps support a wide range of environmental activity by not-for-profit organisations, community groups and council services taking action to improve both our local and global environments.

Grants are awarded to projects that fit into one or more of the following areas:
  • Wildlife habitat creation and protection (for example, tree, shrub and wildflower planting; pond creation)
  • Reducing waste and pollution (for example, community composting, recycling projects, community clean-ups, car-share clubs)
  • Promoting use of the countryside (for example, footpath improvements, walks leaflets)
  • Raising awareness of environmental Issues (for example, newsletters, training courses, environmental education)
  • Contributing to wider sustainability issues
  • Improve access to the local natural environment and work towards developing a green network in Kirklees.

Small grants (up to £1,500) are available from the Community and Service Support Fund for community/voluntary groups, not-for-profit organisations and Kirklees Council services.

Larger strategic grants (up to £10,000) are available for core funding environmental organisations or to support larger environmental projects.

All grant-aided groups have to be formally constituted with people designated to manage the project, look after the funds and with a bank account.

Independent Panel Assessment. Tuesday 16 June 2009
Inform applicant of funding decision. Early July 2009
