His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales presents Kirklees Council with their Ashden Award
Kirklees Warm Zone, the council funded and inspired free home insulation scheme, has won 1st prize at the prestigious Ashden Awards 2009. HRH Prince Charles presented Dr Phil Webber and Cllr Kath Pinnock with the award for for the best local authority sustainable energy scheme in the UK.

Kirklees Warm Zone is the largest home insulation scheme in the UK. By the end of the scheme, 171,000 homes will have been visited, with around 70,000 having loft or cavity wall insulation installed. Insulation measures will save the average household £200 per year on their fuel bills and reduce their CO2 emissions by over one tonne per year.

The Ashden Awards judges commented:
"The Kirklees scheme shows that working with the entire community delivers enormous benefits, energy saving and much more. The massive scale and rapid roll-out are impressive, and this unique and ambitious area-based insulation scheme is delivering substantial results."
