Try this out to see how powerful our memories can become by combining all three main learning styles.
Try learning this list by just reading it…….
Memory: Visual
- 1 eins
- 2 zwei
- 3 drei
- 4 vier
- 5 funf
- 6 sechs
- 7 sieben
- 8 acht
- 9 neun
- 10 zehn
Now add sound, by reading out the correct pronunciations to the right.
Visual + Auditory
- 1 eins -eye-ns
- 2 zwei -sv-eye
- 3 drei -dry
- 4 vier -fear
- 5 funf -foonf
- 6 sechs -sex
- 7 sieben -see ben
- 8 acht -act
- 9 neun -noyn
- 10 zehn -sane
Now build in the actions….
Visual + Auditory + Kinaesthetic
- 1 eins -eye-ns point to eyes
- 2 zwei -sv-eye spy with binoculars
- 3 drei -dry rub your arms dry
- 4 vier -fear be frightened
- 5 funf -foonf punch
- 6 sechs -sex raise your eyebrows!
- 7 sieben -see ben look for Ben
- 8 acht -act be dramatic
- 9 neun -noyn think of “boinging” on springs
- 10 zehn -sane make a speech bubble
For most people the final method is the most effective. This is called memory by association, you associate the movements with the words. When you connect a physical movement to something you are more likely to remember it.
Try and do the same with lists of things you need to remember.
