Data protection
Schools, the Local Authority (LA) and a number of other organisations are all 'data controllers' under the Data Protection Act 1998 in that they determine the purposes for which personal data is processed and the way in which that processing is done.

To meet the requirements of the Data Protection Act 1998, schools must issue a Privacy Notice to pupils and / or parents summarising the information held about pupils, why it is held, and the third parties to whom it may be passed onto.
