From time to time schools need to seek support from ETHOS PRU for both KS3 (Key Stage 3) and KS4 (Key Stage 4)
pupils who are temporarily unable to attend mainstream school due to medical needs.
These pupils include:
- Those who are unable to attend school as a result of physical illness or injury.
- Pupils with complex mental health needs.
- Pregnant schoolgirls or school age parents (in special circumstances).
This support is usually for the short term and the pupils remain dual registered with their mainstream school. Longer term provision can be made for some pupils,
for example with chronic or recurrent illnesses or complex mental health issues.
The main aim is to maintain educative processes with a view, in most cases, to re-integrate pupils back into mainstream school or where appropriate into
alternative provision eg post 16 education. This is done at the earliest opportunity, working closely with school, the pupil, parents or carers and other
agencies.
