Kirklees Children and Young People Service work to provide out of school services (also called extended services) in and around
children's centres and schools.
Extended services help to deliver the aims of Every Child Matters, a government initiative calling for all organisations involved in
providing services to children, young people and their families.
Kirklees schools offer extended services in order to meet local demand, and need and to fit in with both local and school improvement
planning priorities.
Where community consultation has shown that there is no demand for a particular service, or it already exists, schools do not need to offer this.
Schools do not have to offer the services themselves or on the school site.
Schools need to provide access to the services (e.g. signposting to a local childminder).
