If you have a concern about your child's progress or behaviour at school or nursery, it is best to raise this first with the Head
Teacher, Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCo), or a key member of staff.
Both you and the school may feel it is appropriate to involve us at this stage. The school or nursery would then normally contact
us directly.
We work alongside parents, teachers and other adults to identify children's educational needs and how they might best be met.
Sometimes we may also work directly with your child, but we will only do so with your permission. We may observe your child in the
classroom or talk to him or her about how they are getting on at school.
Examples of how we can support you
Consulting with parents, nursery staff and medical agencies about a pre-school child who may need special arrangements at primary
school.
Joint planning with a class teacher on strategies for working with children who are distractible and experiencing difficulties with
learning.
Discussing with parents, school staff and, where appropriate, other agencies, approaches to support the re-integration to school of
a teenager who has been refusing to attend.
Developing a whole school approach to dealing with issues such as bullying, behaviour management and developing language skills.
Translation and interpretation into other languages can be provided.
